This downstairs area is so interesting and nice. The food was great, the roast pig was super juicy and the skin was way crunching than I expected. The cheesecake may be the best I've ever had - especially because it comes with some berry compote. The service was good as well. So glad we came here. I would definitely come back again.

This place is worth the trip. May seem like a tourist trap but it’s definitely worth it. So much history in this ancient restaurant. Suckling pig was delicious. Super crunchy skin. Also got the lamb and veal which are a must. We also got to take pictures in the wine cellar with the dusty wine bottles. Even the bloody Maria that I got was good. Would definitely go again.

The baby lamb was delicious and tender and much better than the pig. The cheese cake was very good too. Book your reservations in advance! We arrived as scheduled and was seated right away. Try the pig and enjoy a dessert. This is a great place for a big family dinner or a romantic dinner for two. The wine and sangria was good. The bill came to $125 for two people. Pricey but you pay for the atmosphere too. Check out the wine cellar in the basement and the kitchen before you leave. Staff was warm and welcoming.

Amazing place just because of the history!! Waiters are amazing and very helpful. They can explain every piece of history and also explain everything on the menu to perfection. My trip all started with seeing a reel on this place. I thought, wow, that looks great. Table booked, flights booked, hotel booked. The day arrives when we visit. Oldest restaurant in the world... What else needs to be said. I had the suckling pig with green beans. Price was to be expected as it's a touristy restaurant, and priced as such. Reservations are best, and make them as far in advance as possible. The pig was amazing, but the edible portions were a bit small. Awesome from the hospitality to the food. All the employees are very very friendly. Even though they are very busy they take the time to show you around the restaurant in between serving guest. They love to share the history about the restaurant and give everyone visiting a menu with information about their restaurant. They even take the time to walk you downstairs to show you their old wine cellar. You can even walk into their kitchen while they are cooking. They do not mind you taking pictures or videos. Simply the best and most friendliest business. And the food was fantastic from the suckling pig to the dessert everything was very good. The cheesecake was amazing in my humble opinion. I never had a cheesecake like there’s ever before. The center was oozing out a creamy cheese while the top had a brown tint. It was awesome 😇 would highly highly recommend while visiting Madrid. We checked out this restaurant as it’s been around for a long time (since 1725) and we were not disappointed. The appetizers were good and the star of the meal was the roast suckling pig. We ordered 3 portions or half of the pig. It was cooked to perfection. The skin was crispy and the meat was with just the right amount of fat to make it so tender and tasty. A meal from centuries past. The tour of the restaurant with its history was incomparable! We took a tour of the restaurant and learned about the ovens that have stayed in use for the past 300 years contributing to the welfare of the neighborhood and community throughout good and challenging circumstances. If you just want to eat food, you can get a meal elsewhere, don’t waste your time. If you want a taste of the past with the history and ambiance, then make a reservation months in advance and take the tour. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The suckling piglets were scrumptious, but the heart of the owners is where you can find the tenderest morsels. A MUST see!

We arrived around 7:48 PM and snagged a table outside. You have not to reserve outdoor tables here, first come, first served. We deliberated for a while on what to order, but ultimately went for the best of the best – the fire-roasted pork and lamb. The pork was fantastic, a milk-fed piglet with a crispy crust. The lamb was very young, so the flavor wasn't as intense as a mature sheep, but it was still delicious and cooked perfectly. We also had the gazpacho, which was excellent, and artichokes, which came in a huge portion and were prepared to perfection.

worth booking in advance! we booked about a month before going at 3.30pm but were allowed in earlier to have a late lunch. service was impeccable and the restaurant has a unique rustic feel. we had the pork, a jug of sangria and some sides and they were good, though not mind-blowing. We took a lunchtime tour with Phil (starting at noon; English speaking guide) and ate a filling, classic lunch from their menu. This restaurant is on multiple levels with narrow staircases and at noon, it's busy with well-dressed staff getting the lunch service prepared (it's a tour of a working restaurant). We got to see the various dining spaces and the cellar and former wine storage area. The history is immense especially when you realize that it has only been in the ownership of two families. We ate the crackling pork and outstanding caramel flan and cheesecake (recommended). The service was excellent and we were well treated. While we started our lunch at 1 pm after the tour and sat in the cellar, it quickly became busy after 1.15 pm or so. Worth a visit and especially if you can get on a tour.

This place is extremely unique. Ask to eat in the cave. You will be taken downstairs to a cave with bricks along the walls and roof. It is quite the experience. They have 3 floors for dining and they pack everyone in.The starters and appetizers were entree size and we over ordered. The mains could easily be shared for 2. The dishes are best for family style dining so that you could try something of everything.Service was fast and precise with out feeling rushed.Everything was delicious. The suckling pig was amazing. Get the green beans and ham.Make a reservation but you can try and walk in. They have a lot of room.

The highlight for my experience was the staff. All are friendly and excellent at what they do! We got a reservation the day before by calling. The gazpacho was delicious! I went with the lamb and it was tasty. You get to take home the paper menu which has the history of the restaurant on it. Being the oldest restaurant in the world, the building has lots of characters, creaky steps included! Make a reso in advance to be safe - it was packed, with new seatings even at 11pm. €120 dinner for two, with bottle of wine.

A once in a lifetime meal in Madrid. Botín is the type of dining experience that you have to check off your bucket list if visiting spain. The setup is old-school, with a three story setup, tons of stairs, and a casual walkway through the kitchen. I recommend a reservation, but a 9/10pm a walk-in was easy to secure (make sure to dress nicely). Besides the general ambience and decoration, the food itself is perfect. With a simple menu, you can’t go wrong with anything they serve. I recommend the famous suckling pig and the mushrooms with cured ham. Table service is a bit spotty, but everything else makes up for it. Prices are completely reasonable but make sure to tip 5-10 euros. This place was by far the highlight of my trip, don’t be afraid to splurge!

Hot take, but I think that the food here is just alright. It is unbelievably touristy and, as one might expect, therefore very expensive. Their signature suckling pig was under seasoned; it did have a crispy skin but was otherwise a boring dish. The garlic soup was pretty good, and the white asparagus was ok but wasn't spectacular. The place definitely has a rich and interesting history but honestly I much preferred eating at some of the other centennial restaurants nearby.Also service wasn't great. We were forced to take an outdoor seat in the cold despite there being ample indoor seating - I'm guessing that the staff wanted to clean the indoor space between meal times, but they didn't really communicate any reason and just told us that only outdoor seating was available despite plenty of tables inside being clearly empty.

If you go to Madrid, you have to go to Botín. What a wonderful experience!! It is the oldest restaurant in the world. The food is delicious and there is quite a bit to choose from. Most people go for the Roast suckling pig. The Poultry broth is also very good. The atmosphere is great and you feel that you are back in time. The wait is short for your food. The Sangria was also very good. An added benefit is to order the large Sangria and then you can buy the pitcher for 10 euros. A really good deal.This is a busy restaurant that serves a lot of people daily. Things move fast inside. Servers are all over. It is not a distraction at all. It actually adds to the experience!! There was so much hype so our expectations were high. The food was good, but the service was not. I understand they are busy, and service is subjective. I am sure other reviewers had much better dining experience than we had.We made reservations for 3:30pm and was promptly placed in the basement. It was packed and the leg room felt more cramp than in an airplane.When we asked for non-alcoholic drinks, the entire attitude changed. We did not have time to look through the menu as it was taken from us. The service only got better when I mention to the waiter 'Why are we being rush out'. I eventually was able to obtain vinegar for the bread that was quite hard and dry.We ordered the suckling pig. The first taste was quite strong, but it got better with the second bite. It was quite tender. We ordered the Tartar Botin (dessert) and it was quite good.The entire experience was completed in less than 30 minutes.Is it worth it? If you are in Madrid and have time, then you should give it a try. Just temper your expectations.

The waiters are a touch brusque in their manner and treatment of customers which may be the result of the fame of the restaurant. The world's oldest restaurant was a must visit on our trip to Madrid, this time. It surely did not disappoint us. The house wines are smooth and lovely. We had their specialty ' the roast lamb' which was one of the best lamb I've had so far. Extremely tender and full of flavour. Their fish mains were equally good too. I loved their garlic soup as well, it was a nice comforting soup on a cold winter afternoon. We couldn't find a slot to reserve a table on their website, so we arrived a couple of minutes before the restaurant opened and we were welcomed in and offered a table.

Wish I could add more stars. This place is an absolute gem! I’ve spent big money at many places and I’ve never been so willing to pay a large dinner bill like this. First off this restaurant is OLD….. like 1700s old! So the space is very limited, but they are very efficient with how they manage the tables and flow though the dining room. We got seated downstairs next to an old wine cellar from the 1500s. They let the patrons visit this section, only asking you don’t touch anything and navigate the small stairwell carefully. An absolute must to see while you’re there. The servers all moved quickly and efficiently throughout the dining room, English was limited, but they knew enough to get your order’s accurately to your table. We ordered all courses, and ventured through as much of the menu as we could eat.4 people, 3 appetizers, 4 main courses, and 2 deserts, a bottle of wine, a carafe of sangria and a couple sodas was just over $200 Euro. (Money well spent) as the food was amazing.2 servings of the Suckling Pig, 1 roasted lambs leg, and a Fillet Mignon. A plate of Iberian ham, asparagus, and croquets. We had a 3:30pm reservation on Monday 2/19 and had a good meal and prompt service. Let's be honest, you come to here to experience the "oldest continually operating restaurant in the world". The locals don't come here for regular meals since it's priced higher for us tourists - and higher rated restaurants can be found in this huge city. The pig was very tender and juicy (pro tip: eat the skin with it - it's tasty). Coming from South Carolina - we do BBQ pig really well in our region of the USA - we've certainly had better pig near our home for much cheaper (but again, you go here for the experience in Madrid). The house wine and bread were both solid. At this hour, our service was great too. The vegetables were over-cooked like my Grandma used to do it - the only glaring weakness in the meal. We did not get dessert, but honestly, they looked good if you still have room. Overall, we recommend Madrid visitors to give it a try - once.

One of the oldest continuously restaurants in Europe, and the world, we had to make a stop here in Madrid while in town for a wedding! We brought our kids with us, and sat on the top floor.We tried all of their most famous dishes, and had a blast as a family here. The food was iconic, and pretty good, the waiters were not incredibly helpful or polite, and we had to ask several times for some butter with the bread.If you care about the historical nature, I’d say visit it, otherwise probably pass. Eating at Botin was like stepping back in history. The building has so much charm with the old wood banisters, beams and doors as well as the tiles. The waiters are attentive and dressed in formal white suits. I had the prix fixe menu which was great value. I choose the garlic soup with egg and bacon, the suckling pig (what the restaurant is known for) and ice cream for dessert. The meal comes with a glass of wine. A nice touch was also the minstrels who came in playing various types of guitar. That helped highlight the history of this unique restaurant - the oldest in the world in continuous operation.
